According to Kyambadde, Museveni helped her to trace her stolen car and the President helped to retrieve it.
The former Minister of Trade said that her husband bought her a car. It was however stolen by Tanzanians known as ‘Bakombozi.’ In her attempts to try and recover it, Amelia Kyambadde was told that the only person who could help her was Museveni.
He was a Minister by then and despite some people telling her to give it up, she insisted and met him.
Indeed, Mr Museveni helped her to recover the vehicle sparking off a working relationship between them. Museveni consequently gave Kyambadde a job as his permanent secretary.
However, her father was not enthusiastic about her new job and advised her against it.
He argued that once one entered politics in Africa, there was no way to escape this vicious cycle.
“My husband bought me a car & it was stolen by the Tanzanians that were called “Bakombozi”. I was told that the only person who could help me get it back was the then Minister @KagutaMuseveni. Everyone advised me to give up but I insisted. I went ahead to meet him & he recovered it. Then Minister @KagutaMuseveni gave me my first @GovUganda job as his secretary & we began to work together. My father gave me advice about it & told me that he didn’t support the idea of being involved in politics cause he believed that once you enter politics in Africa you can’t get yourself out,” said the ex Minister.
And just like her father predicted, she never left politics. It was only in the previous elections that she decided to take a break from active politics.
This was also after losing to NUP’s Hilary Kiyaga more popularly known as Dr Hilderman.
Some social media users such as author Kakwenza Rukira, political analyst Tim Kalyegira and FDC argued that Museveni knew the whereabouts of Amelia’s car.
