Deputy Speaker Among Pledges Support To New Kampala Archbishop Paul Ssemwogerere

Deputy Speaker Of Parliament Anita Among has joined other Ugandans in congratulating Paul Ssemwogerere. They congratulated the latter upon his appointment as Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese.

Pope Francis appointed Ssemwogerere on Thursday, replacing the late Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga. Lwanga died of a heart attack on April 3, 2021 at the age of 68.

“As Deputy Speaker of Parliament, I pledge my unwavering and dedicated support to you and the Catholic Church during your ministry,” Among, who is also the Bukedea Woman MP, said in a message posted on her Twitter.

The Pope’s envoy to Uganda, Archbishop Luigi Bianco, announced the appointment at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala. Paul Ssemwogerere said he was honored to be appointed.

Meanwhile, In other news by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, police in Katonga Region arrested the suspected killer of Mityana Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Josephat Kasambula. The priest happened to be the curate at St Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish in Kiboga District.

The police spokesperson of Katonga Regional Police, Ms. Lydia Tumushabe said they arrested the suspect on Thursday evening. She said the police force acted immediately after they received a tip-off from residents of Lusalira along Lake Wamala shoreline.
