Anita Among Backs The Idea To Use Sports To Drive Gender Equality

According to speaker Anita Among, sports has the capability to promote gender equality. Apparently, this is because women and girls can learn teamwork, self-reliance, resilience, and confidence to compete favourably with men.

The observation from the Speaker came after a football match between Kampala Queens FC and Olila High school FC from Soroti.

The match was part of the FUFA Women Super League at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.

She revealed how important this initiative would be. She added that it would help defy gender stereotypes and social norms which has been the order of the day.

“Women too have unmatched potential in sport. We can close the inequality gap between men and women if we get involved in such games that were predominantly known for men. I call upon other women to follow suit,” she said.

She promised to seek for more support for the sports sector focusing on the benefit of the girl child. She added that this will reduce the gender imbalance that exists when it comes to the rate of participation in sports.

FUFA president, Moses Mogogo, also witnessed the game that climaxed with a 2-0 win in favour of Kampala Queens.

He commended the speaker for her unwavering efforts in supporting talent in Uganda.

The FUFA Women Super League is among the top women’s domestic football leagues in Uganda. It is sanctioned by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations.
