She said media reports raise several allegations that they had given out Arua CFR to investors, heavily encroached, and in the process of degazzetement.
‘’Arua CFR is therefore not degazetted and is still under the management of the NFA,’’ Juliet k. Mubi, the public relations officer at NFA said.
The Arua Arua Central Forest Reserve(Barifa) was gazetted in 1932 with an area of 263 hectares. The forest functions include; protecting banks of streams that originate from it and the wetlands associated with these rivers and streams.
The major streams include Asa, Origama, Adumini, Adroyi, and Mindreyi among other functions.
Mubi further explained that they licensed part of the Arua CFR to private sector investors and local people for the production of industrial timber and poles.
She also added that they licensed 10 hectares for the development of a forest park.
The Maracha County MP Denis Oguzu Lee emerged as the successful bidder and got a license to develop a forest park in the Arua CFR. They also made the offer to Oguzu in accordance with the law and due processes.
NFA wishes to continue engaging with Arua City Authority and other city councils to ensure sustainable development of the forest reserves.
It is also open to suggestions that will ensure sustainable development and the contribution of urban forests to the socio-economic transformation of cities.
