“You are hereby informed that with effect from Monday, November, 1, 2021, access to parliamentary precincts will be restricted to only those that have been vaccinated against Covid,” a notice to all MPs by the Clerk to Parliament reads in part.
The notice states that there is need for MPs to show a good example to the public. Therefore, they will lock out any member who is not willing to get the vaccine.
According to the notice, they aim at demonstrating support to government’s public health strategy.
“The president in his address to the nation on Thursday, October 28 on the state of the fight against Covid emphasized the need to have as many Ugandans as possible vaccinated as a strategy to control the spread of the pandemic which is essential for the total reopening of the economy.”
This new order is not for only the MPs and staff in Parliament but also for those planning to visit the Parliament. In simple terms, anyone who is no vaccination card should stay away from the August house.
After the National Medical stores and Ministry of Health, Parliament also had become the third government institution to bar entrance to anyone without a vaccination.
Meanwhile, the President assured Ugandans that by December, the country will have received 23 Million doses of vaccines. He promised that they will open the whole economy in January.
