According to him, every girl that is pregnant and breastfeeding should not be allowed back to school. This is specifically for Church Of Uganda founded schools. He says it’s not morally upright for these girls to sit with other students.
In Church Of Uganda, this is a discipline that is even followed in church. Girls that get pregnant before marriage are not allowed to minister or take part in church activities.
Apparently, it’s a grave sin and they are not even allowed to have holy communion until they actually get married officially. So, for him to say such a thing is not actually strange in the Anglican Church.
Some parents have supported Bishop James Ssebagala saying other children should not be looking at such examples.
“Absolutely right. Let’s not normalize this. Paints a bad picture and makes it look normal setting a terrible precedent. IT IS NOT. Stay home, have your child. It is even a breastfeeding room. Children are so much influenced by things around them.”
It should however be remembered that the Ministry of Education sad all students should be allowed in school regardless of what is going on with them.
Will this be observed? Who is going to implement it? If these questions are not answered, then everyone is going to be left to do what they feel is right.
