The army under the command of Elwelu, in 2016, attacked the Rwenzururu kingdom palace. This attack left a great number of people dead and their king arrested.
When the media asked him about how he felt about the Kasese deaths, he bluntly said he doesn’t regret it. According to him Uganda is peaceful because of him.
“Uganda is peaceful because of my action and Kasese is very peaceful and they are doing very well. Do you hear any problem in Kasese again?”
The court charged the King of Rwenzuru plus 150 of his guards with the cases of treason, murder and terrorism.
That statement made by Elwelu didn’t sit well with NUP President, Kyagulanyi. He even questioned how a man like swore by the Bible.
“A man under whose command over 150 citizens were murdered swore in with a Bible! He also stated that the citizens who were murdered in Kasese (including women and children) deserved it.”
“As Lt. Gen. Elwelu and several known criminals swear in on the red carpet, innocent citizens- the likes of Nubian Li and Dog City are languishing in Kitalya, while many others are being tortured in safe houses,” he said.
Bobi Wine however notes that this will one day end. The system where criminals according to him are comfortably walking on streets free from any charge.
“His admission attracts legal consequences. Whereas he enjoys the protection of the state at the moment, at any one time, he can be prosecuted.”
