Bobi Wine’s Effort To Meet Opposition Leaders Fails Miserably

National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has been making efforts to reach out to opposition leaders. His efforts, however, appear to have collided with a brick wall as the meeting has failed to happen.

Back in April, Kyagulanyi sent out to FDC, ANT, DP, and the Justice Forum seeking to pay them a courtesy call. However, a month later, he has only been able to meet up with the leaders of one party. He met with the Justice Forum (Jeema).

While Kyagulanyi met with the Jeema leaders in late April, the party president Asuman Basalirwa failed to show up for the meeting.

He attributed his absence to a prolonged court matter he had been handling in the constitutional court.

According to sources though, many party leaders were disenchanted with Kyagulanyi. They accused him of having used them then and he dumped them right after.

It is said that during the election cycle this year, Kyagulanyi exclusively supported NUP candidates despite the long working relationship he had with Jeema.

This same sentiment from Jeema also bounced back from other opposition parties. An insider at FDC says Kyagulanyi ran an annihilation campaign during the elections and that it would be too hard for them to make up for that now.

‘’He was working to finish us but we survived and now he says he wants to talk to us. What is there for us to talk about?’’ a senior party official said.

Meanwhile, the acting secretary-general of ANT, Alice Alaso said the party is willing to meet with any opposition political party. She said this is because they are fighting for the same goal. ANT had accepted to meet with Kyagulanyi, however, there was a clash in the program.

NUP organized prayers for her people who are from prison and those killed during Kyagulanyi’s political journey on the day they were supposed to meet.
