Bobi Wine Protests: Today Marks One Year Since The November Killings Of 2020

Bobi Wine Protests made November 18th and 19th 2020 to come off as the darkest days of the year for Kampala. It’s been a year since a number of people lost their lives in the riots around the capital and the outskirts.

However, the most disturbing news is that no family of the victims has ever received justice up until now.

For many, especially those who lost their lives, today is only a reminder of the most disturbing incidents that happened.

Last year, around this time, Ugandans ran to the streets rioting due to what they called injustice taking place. Kyagulanyi who was by then a Presidential candidate had been arrested by the police as he was campaigning.

Police claimed that he was violating the Covid-19 SOPs set at that time. Kyagulanyi was in Nalufenya for three days before allowing anyone to see him which caused unrest among his supporters.

Unfortunately, during these Bobi Wine protests, about 54 people died with so many people left injured or unaccounted for.

The president had promised that they would compensate all these families if only they prove those who died didn’t gear the strikes. However, to date, no compensation has been made, at least not one that we know of.

Does this mean the families of the victims will never get justice on behalf of their beloved?

Today, National Unity Platform through their different social media platforms, remembered the people who lost their lives during these riots.

“In loving memory of the innocent Ugandans who were massacred by the regime on 18th & 19th November 2020. May their Souls Continue to Rest In Peace.” NUP posted.
