According to reports, a number of areas in the Karamoja sub-region continue to experience continued food insecurities. This is sadly expected to continue and worst of all people are dying of famine.
Last evening, as he flagged off the truck to Karamoja, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi addressed the media. He said the region needs immediate humanitarian support. That is why they started off the efforts to extend aid to the people of Karamoja before they starve to death.
“We all know that millions of Ugandans are right now starving to death, although Karamoja is the worst hit so far. Gen. Museveni’s regime is only concerned about its survival and enrichment and not the welfare of the people,” he said.
Kyagulanyi also said that in the near future reports will indicate that the little money which got allocated to extend aid to the region has been swindled.
“That is why I want to encourage the people of Uganda to support these efforts in every small or big way to extend support to our people there. Let’s each do the little we can to save lives,” he said.
Bobi Wine commented on the high prices of food that have left many Ugandan families helpless. Many are not in position to access nutritious foods hence finding other ways to cope.
Apparently, over half of the population in Moroto go without any food an entire day and night. This goes on for at least three days in a month.
The same report showed that 518,000 people (over 40 percent of the population) in Karamoja Sub-region are facing high levels of food insecurity. This is up from 361,000 people (30 percent) in 2021.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on Tuesday this week revealed that the government had allocated Shs 135 billion. This is to address the food crisis in Karamoja.
