Singer Robert Kyagulanyi better known as Bobi Wine has successfully been nominated for the Kyadondo East by-election. Flanked by his wife, Barbie Itungo and a mammoth crowd, Bobi was found fitting to contest by the Electoral commission.
The singer-turned politician is now a duly nominated candidate as the race gets tighter.
In July last year, singer Bobi Wine revealed intentions to join the Kyadondo East Parliamentary race, shortly after FDC’s Apollo Kantinti was kicked out over electoral anomalies. His hopes however were dimmed when Apollo Kantinti rushed to the court of Appeal to counter the decision by the High court, in a case that dragged on until April 26 2017.
Unfortunate for Kantinti, the court of appeal upheld the earlier decision by the High Court, citing anomalies and other electoral malpractices.
Three Justices; Richard Buteera, Cheborion Balishaki and Paul Mugamba unanimously agreed with High Court Judge Henry Kaweesa that there was non-compliance of Electoral laws on the side of the Election Commission (EC) while conducting the said election which substantially affected the result in a substantial manner.
The justices ruled that after a careful re-evaluation of the evidence on record, they have also come to a conclusion that it was not clear on who won the Kyadondo East constituency election since results from 9 polling stations were not included in the final tally.
