The Territorial Police in Jinja are actively delving into a distressing event where a boda boda rider reportedly took the lives of his wife and child before ending his own in Katende Triangle Zone, Northern Division, Bugembe in Jinja City.
SP James Mubi, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the devastating occurrence, revealing the victims as Edirisa Isabirye, a 25-year-old boda boda rider, his wife Mirabu Kakazi, aged 17, and their nine-month-old daughter, Mirabu Munana.
Initial reports suggest that Isabirye allegedly ignited a charcoal stove beneath their bed during the early hours of Tuesday, igniting the mattress and engulfing the room in flames while his family slept peacefully.
A heartbreaking outcome
The fire claimed the lives of the wife and child, leading Isabirye to take his own life by hanging himself in the same room using a bedsheet upon realizing the irreversible consequences of his actions.
SP Mubi’s statement highlighted the troubled dynamics within the family, characterized by frequent disputes, domestic abuse, and dominating behavior, shedding light on potential underlying factors contributing to the tragic incident.
Emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, trust, and effective communication in relationships, Mubi urged individuals to be vigilant for signs of toxicity and seek professional guidance when faced with challenging situations.
Promoting awareness and support
Recognizing the significance of identifying warning signs in relationships, Mubi stressed the critical role of early intervention and seeking assistance to avert life-threatening scenarios and preserve well-being.
Amidst the sorrow, it was revealed that Mirabu Kakazi, the deceased wife, will be laid to rest in Namagera Town Council, Jinja District, while Isabirye and their daughter will find their final resting place in Bukoma subcounty, Luuka District.
