Bus Passengers Overpower Thugs, Leave One Dead

Ntungamo District police has launched a manhunt for two thugs who stopped a passenger bus using a toy pistol.

The thugs stopped the Gateway bus registration number UAZ 233D at Nyabugando along Kabale High Way about 1 KM off Rwentoobo Town. They apparently stole an unspecified amount of money from the passengers.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson said the incident happened on Sunday morning at around 2:00am. The “armed” robbers placed big stones on the road causing a blockade.

He said that the bus went over the stones, came to a stop and then three robbers made their way in. One of the robbers forced the driver outside and stayed there to guard him as the other two remained inside robbing the passengers of their belongings.

The thugs had a toy pistol

Apparently, the bus driver identified as Muhereza Muhamud realized that the thugs were armed with a toy pistol. He then alerted the passengers to apprehend the two thugs inside the bus.

The passengers were able to apprehend one of the thugs inside the bus while the other two escaped with the looted money. Unfortunately, they beat the arrested thug until he lost his life.

Kasasira said a team of police officers led by the District Police Commander Ntungamo responded in time to the Scene. They documented it and recorded Statements from victims/witnesses.

He revealed that Police found out that the robbers were 3 in number, armed with a toy pistol and that an unspecified amount of money was stolen.

Kasasira also confirmed that one of the robbers was killed, and two others fled with stolen money from the loot. No passenger was injured.
