Musician Carol Nantongo has expressed her unhappiness about being called a band music singer. She prefers to be seen as more of an urban artiste.
While appearing on Galaxy TV’s The Deep Talk with Mr Henrie, the Kamese Tambula singer said that she’s grateful for the band genre because it gave her exposure and a stepping stone. However, she doesn’t wish to be categorized as a band music singer.
It should be noted that she started out under the Golden Band. However, a few years back, she quit the group to pursue a solo career. This has turned out fairly successful.
Furthermore, she also pointed out some singers who sing the kind of music as hers. These however are labeled as urban singers and among these is Winnie Nwagi.
“I’m grateful to band music because it gave me a platform. From there I got to rise to where I’m now. However, I don’t wish to be called a band singer. Take an example of the likes of Winnie Nwagi. Some of her songs such as Kibulamu are ballads. But nobody calls her a band singer because she’s never been into a band,” said Carol Nantongo.
It is no secret that most music fans hardly know the difference between certain music genres. Anyone who has ever done a certain type of music is always associated with for good.
It is therefore hard to see them transition from one type to another. It seems like the songstress will have to bear with this fact.
