During the vigil of the late speaker Hon Jacob Oulanyah, the CJ went on an outburst condemning the protests carried out by a section of people in Seattle where the late speaker was being hospitalized.
Mr Owiny-Dollo questioned why these same protests were not held when the Kabaka was flown to Germany for treatment. He added that they flew the Kabaka using a presidential jet and public funds.
According to Dollo, they could have done this because Oulanyah was not a Muganda. He further accused Baganda of hypocrisy and tribalism.
Additionally, he added that if opinion leaders don’t come out to condemn the rising intolerant politicians in Buganda, the region is likely to fall into an abyss.
With immediate effect, the Prime Minister of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga refuted these accusations with evidence attached to it.
This even annoyed the Baganda the more because they saw it as an attack on the Baganda and specifically the king.
Due to this, the public put the Chief Justice under pressure to apologize. It didn’t seem to work at first but he later coiled and apologized in writing.
“I hereby unequivocally, unreservedly and of my free volition, wholly retract that reference and also hereby tender my apology to His Majesty the Kabaka. I will…communicate to the Katikkiro of Buganda in writing,” Owiny-Dollo said, according to Daily Monitor.
Today morning, he decided to go and meet the Kabaka personally besides writing to make this apology official. What the Chief Justice has done has at least cooled down the fire of tribalism.
