Chile Confirms First Human Case Of Bird Flu

Following a recent statement released by the ministry of health in Chile, the case was found in a 53 year old man who had signs of severe influenza though he was relatively stable as reported to Reuters.

However since last year, Chile has only documented cases of the H5N1 bird flu in wild animals. Chilean authorities reported a bird flu out break at an industrial facility in the Maule region in the southern part of country as reported to Reuters.

“ This finding was made after a complaint made to the Maule SAG (agricultural and livestock agency) about an increase in mortality on the farm of around 70 birds and another 60 that were symptomatic of the virus, “ the ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.

However the government has halted poultry exports due to recent incidents in the industrial farms although Brazil the world’s top exporter of chicken hasn’t been infected though some cases have been manifested in some parts of Argentina.

Additionally at least 14 Latin American nations have so far reported out breaks of the highly pathogenic Avian influenza virus.

Earlier this year a 9 year old Ecuador was the first to be detected with bird flu much as International health officials have tried to develop vaccines to control the virus in case it surges.
