Yesterday 4th August 2021 saw Uganda get her first gold medal in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics through 22-year-old Peruth Chemutai.
Chemutai who also doubles as a police officer and excelled just like previous sportspeople in the police force who have excelled in the past competitions.
However, according to Pablo, a number of things will be done for Chemutai as he outlined them.
“What is likely to happen to Peruth Chemuta after winning gold.
Presidential invitation to have dinner with him.
The ruling party will claim her victory was theirs.
The Uganda police will promote her.
Banks will call to interest her in acquiring a loan.
Mineral water companies will fight for her endorsement.
The revenue authority has already figured out how much taxes she has to pay.
Tabloids will be looking for her ex-boyfriend.” Pablo stated.
Chemutai was a less known athlete before her maiden and golden Olympic campaign.
She however had a rich portfolio with a number of medals from her participation in junior competitions.
Her gold medal was the first in the 3000m steeplechase Uganda has ever won in the Olympics.
It’s also the country’s first gold medal in a period of 9 years after Stephen Kiprotich’s 2012 London Olympics in the men’s marathon.
The focus had been on the long-distance runners Cheptegei and Kiplimo who all bagged silver and bronze medals in the 10,000m. After having qualified for the 5,000m on Friday, they will be hoping for gold. Winnie Nanyondo is also the other hopeful in the 1500m.
Meanwhile, a number of Ugandans including the President and other high ranking officials took to their different social media pages to congratulate Chemutai on this huge win.
