The Copyright Law Won’t Help Our Music Industry- Joshua Baraka

Upcoming singer Joshua Baraka has said that he doesn’t think the much-demanded Copyright law will help musicians. Musicians in Uganda are currently fighting tooth and nail to have this law enacted.

They believe that it is their key to becoming multi-millionaires. However, the Nana singer believes that even if it is passed, it won’t change much.

The Ugandan music industry won’t step up to the level of Nigerians who are currently the giants of African music.

Baraka believes that the Musicians Federation should have had other stakeholders such as producers. This, therefore, offends him when others who contribute to the industry are not included.

“When the copyright law is passed, that doesn’t mean that our music industry will be at the level of Nigerians. I feel offended when you do a musician’s federation and don’t call producers, directors and other stakeholders,” he said while appearing on Galaxy FM.

Apparently, the Musicians Federation seems to be facing opposition from its own musicians. Although it seems to be making steps in the right direction, there are some who are disgruntled.

Another singer who was in studio, Daxx Kartel said that they don’t need money from the government.

All they need is policy but the policy makers available are not interested. These according to the singer are the biggest enemies of the art in the country.

“My fellow Artistes, we don’t need money from the government, we just need a policy. The problem we have is the policy makers we have are not interested, they are our greatest enemies.”
