Justice Served: David Okello Sentenced To 55 Years For Rape And Robbery

Soroti High Court, under the leadership of Resident Judge Boniface Wamala, handed down a significant sentence of 55 years in prison to David Okello, aged 34, for the grave offenses of rape and robbery.

Judge Wamala did not mince words in describing Okello’s actions as “terrifying and unlawful,” highlighting the profound impact they had on the victim, his 40-year-old aunt.

The victim was subjected to a traumatic experience, being forced to flee unclothed in front of her own children after Okello violently stripped her of her garments.

Despite Okello’s pleas for leniency based on health issues, the court remained resolute in its decision, emphasizing the compelling evidence presented by the prosecution.

The judge’s ruling underscored the seriousness of the crimes committed by Okello on November 18, 2020, in Apokor Village, Soroti Subcounty, where he not only committed rape and assault but also stole Shs30,000 from the victim.

The gravity of the situation was further confirmed by a medical report detailing injuries consistent with both physical and sexual assault.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Wamala made it clear that the purpose extended beyond punishment; it was to serve as a stark warning to society at large.

The judge reiterated that Okello’s actions were not only terrifying but also illegal, justifying the imposition of a lengthy prison term. By holding David Okello accountable for his reprehensible deeds, the court aimed to deter similar heinous acts and uphold the principles of justice and safety within the community.
