I have run out of words. Am waiting for my time to die. First of all, my child is now a deceased. I was first raped in 2015 March as I was returning from Ayipe Trading Centre at around 8pm,’she narrated.

This stressed woman was attacked by a man whom she thought was a family friend. He grappled me down and raped me. I reported him to my parents, but surprisingly, they just blamed me. They said I just wanted to sleep with him. I decided to keep silent because my parents had put a blame on me,’she said.

In September 2015, Draru accompanied her sick friend to a clinic, where one of the health workers discussed the importance of knowing your health status. She failed to test because she was already told by villagers that the man who raped her was under HIV treatment.

She was afraid to know her HIV status, she was however convinced by her friend to test and she finally confirmed her speculation. She quickly went home and shared the test results with both her mother and father.

According to the family of the accused, they claimed they were not aware and there was no evidence pinning their son to have committed such an weird offence. I actually made a decision to look for this man and do something bad to him. But I was told he is no longer staying in this place and indeed he disappeared completely,’said Draru.

She was raped the second time after three years

In June 2018, this stressed woman was raped once again by another man whom she failed to identify in the first place. The rapist attacked her on her way home in about a few minutes to 10pm at night.

Luckily enough, the neighbours helped to identify the rapist after she described the clothes he was putting on.

Since she managed to identify the second rapist, her parents held a meeting with rapist’s family and agreed to settle the matters peacefully. After a month, she missed her periods, meaning she was pregnant.

My parents took me to the rapist’s home and his parents accepted to take care of me, which they did until I gave birth,’she said.
