Ssebamala says regarding the cooperation agreement between NRM and DP, members were never in agreement with it but DP leadership went ahead to sign it.
“The Democratic Party leadership is in NRM and the members are in the party. It’s very clear. 90% of the members do not agree with the cooperation agreement between Mao and the president. The reason why we are in the opposition is not that we don’t see good in NRM, we are only saying, we can offer better solutions.”
“Our constitution is very clear, for Mao & Siranda to come up with any agreement, they are supposed to go through different processes which they didn’t do. Since they are thinking for us illegally, we’re not going to take that course of action,” Richard Ssebamala added.
Since Mao signed the cooperation agreement with NRM, some of the DP members have expressed interest in overthrowing him. However, up until now, this has not been successful.
Meanwhile, Opio Okoler Lo Amanu, DP spokesperson, says party members should watch the way they want to run the party.
“The way you run a political party is the way you will run the government when you are in power. If we (Democratic Party) begin to run in a higgledy-piggledy way, I do not think that we will be able to win the trust of Ugandans.”
