“This is a continuation of the journey that started even before some of us were born. Your excellency, you now have the historical opportunity to gather patriots that are scattered all over Uganda. You must look for them wherever they are because they are in all corners of Uganda. These are things I believe will be enjoyed most by unborn children,” said Mao.

The Secretary General of NUP, David Lewis Rubongoya, said that the pretense for Mao was over. He added that this is the reason why the opposition in Uganda can’t unite.

“The pretense is over. Explains the attacks on NUP. Hope this clears the air for those who always ask about “opposition unity” in Uganda. Like I have persistently said, the mistake some analysts make is to assume that everyone who calls themselves opposition is actually opposition,” said Rubongoya.

Other DP members have come out to express their disappointment in what they described as a sellout. Some are actually glad that they had opted out of the party early enough.

Mao however said that DP remains independent. The agreement just has some specific elements of cooperation.
