Distressed Widow Narrates Her Sorrow On Living With Her In-laws

A distressed widow in Nyeri narrated her emotional story regarding a difficult life she has been going through after her husband’s death a few years ago. A 43 year old woman identified as Anne says before her husband passed away she was having a friendly relationship with her in-laws but her sorrow began just after he died due to illness. Her in-laws took everything from her including the land title of their 3 acre land which her husband left with her. Whenever she failed to do what her in-laws had instructed her to they would threaten her life.

Another sad experience was when her husband’s elder brother took her land title and secured a bank loan with it as a form of security, money which it was difficult to pay. The bank has since been pestering to auction the land and leave her homeless to repay back their money. She had nowhere to go keeping in mind her that parents died long time ago. She tried to seek justice from the area chief who wanted other favors like sleeping with her as form of payment in order to help him.

The police did not offer the required justice as she toured several police stations but got no justice.
