Doreen Nyanjura Takes Her Feminism To Another Level

Kampala City Deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura looks likes she’s set to use her platform to advance ‘women’s rights.’ The FDC top honcho has said that some old-age practices should be uprooted from society.

By this, she means women taking up men’s names. According to her, a man is always referred to by his name whether married or unmarried.

However, for a woman, they are always referred to by their names when single. And after getting married, they adopt their men’s names.

Even when they give birth to children, the kids take on their fathers’ names. Doreen Nyanjura believes this is how women lose their identity and surprisingly some people are okay with it.

“He is Mr whether Married or not! He won’t change his name to the woman’s name! You are Ms or Miss when unmarried but Mrs when you get married. The children will be named after their father & not their mother. That’s how women lose their identity & many are okay with it,” she said.

However, her opinion was met with less enthusiasm from her followers. Some suggested that her feminism is becoming too toxic.

She then went ahead and suggested that feminism should actually be appreciated. Doreen, therefore, implies that she needs a man that will take up her name and not the other way round.

When others tried to say that the practice is biblical, she questioned whether they know the Bible’s origins and those that introduced it to Africa.

Well, this is not the first time the politician is presenting seemingly controversial issues about marriage. Surprisingly, she has never been married. She recently revealed that three of her previous relationships failed due to her career.

The level of such feminism trying to shake the status quo is on the rise globally. Some of these activists see men as their enemies and want most gender practices realigned in the way they please.
