Drama As President Magufuli Fires Deputy Minister Who Failed To Read Oath In Swahili

There was drama in Tanzania during the swearing in of the Cabinet on Wednesday, December 9, after a nominated deputy Minister struggled to read his oath in Swahili.

President Magufuli had appointed Francis Ndulane as the deputy Minister for Minerals in his latest cabinet. Ndulane failed to accurately read the content of his oath of office during the function that Magufuli himself presided over.

According to media sources, the no nonsense head of state said he would replace Ndulane with another nominee.

The Head of State congratulated the Kilwa North MP as he would continue serving as citizen’s representative.  However, they will investigate his master’s degree in Science (Finance).

“I can see the prime minister looking at me carefully. Because together with him (Ndulane) they are the only MPs from Lindi in the Cabinet.

He added, “We will look for someone who can properly read the documents entering his office and unveil whether there are forgeries.” Magufuli nicknamed the bulldozer said.

Warning to the new cabinet

Known for his dramatic moves, the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) leader warned new Cabinet members against taking selfies when launching government projects. He said it was easy to tell a performing Cabinet member and one who was not.

The 61-year-old inaugurated his Cabinet just two months after he won the hotly-contested October 26th, presidential election.

The second-term president received 12.5 million votes (85%) while his main challenger, Tundu Lissu of the Chadema party, got 1.9 million votes (13%). Lissu dismissed the election results saying the exercise was marred with widespread irregularities. Lissu had come in second place.
