Aispuro pleaded guilty to these charges and was sentenced to 3 years in November 2021. All these charges relate to her husband’s drug empire. It also includes four years of supervised release and a forfeiture of $1.5 million.
“We can confirm Emma Coronel Aispuro’s release from the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) today, September 13, 2023,” spokesperson Randilee Giamusso told CNN in an email.
“For privacy, safety, and security, the FBOP does not provide additional information on those who are no longer in our custody,” she added.
According to the prison’s inmate Bureau, Aispuro had been held at residential reentry management facility in Long Beach, California.
She expressed deep regret for her involvement with El Chapo and the Sinaloa Cartel and all the damages she could have done.
Meanwhile, El Chapo is serving a life sentence at the Colorado’s Supermax prison. He was sentenced in 2019 for engaging in a criminal empire, drug trafficking and dealing in illegal firearms.
The drug lord twice escaped from Mexican prisons before being transferred to the US. He has been described as “ruthless and bloodthirsty leader” of the Sinaloa cartel.
Meanwhile, the Sinaloa Cartel is very well still in operation. It was however sanctioned by the Biden administration in February this year. This was for its illegal and deadly fentanyl and methamphetamine trade inside the US.
