As the president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) which is at the forefront of this struggle, Kenzo decided to take matters to the fountain of honor.
The Semyekozo singer referred to President Museveni as his ‘Mzee.’ Additionally, the singer said that they discussed the urgent need to amend this law. The BET award winner added that it was a great discussion and the President promised to follow it up.
Besides, Museveni also agreed to meet Kenzo’s Federation members and see how far their struggle has reached.
Read his post below;
“In the quest for streamlining our industry and lobbying for a well-functioning Music industry, today I met my Mzee H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. We discussed the urgent need for the amendment of the Copyright & Neighboring Rights Act 2006. It was a great discussion in which he promised to follow into the matter with the urgency it requires.
He also accepted my request for a meeting to introduce to him the Uganda National Musicians Federation Leadership. And how far we have gone as a federation in building national structures for a more inclusive and vibrant Music industry.”
As some appreciated him for this meeting, others didn’t appreciate it. Several social media users told him that it’s Parliament that passes laws and not the president.
The Big Talent boss has however seems so determine to have the copyright law implemented despite the negativity from some groups.
