Museveni while delivering his national women’s day address at Sanga playground in Kiruhura District decided to pull off a joke. He said that he knows English is one of Banyankore’s biggest problems.
Despite all the massive education that the NRM has done, the British language has remained a menace for them. He therefore requested that they allow him to first address the rest in English. And when he’s done, he would translate for them in their own language.
This sent the mammoth crowd into a roar of laughter but of course, he wasn’t lying.
“The Banyankore I’m told that English is one of your biggest problems. Even after the massive education we have done in the country, you’re still not good with English. So please allow me to first finish speaking in English to those who understand it. Then I will translate later for you,” said Museveni while laughing which sent his audience bursting with chuckles.
Social media users who weren’t there of course couldn’t miss this moment. As soon as the President’s clip was accessed, they joined in and prolonged the conversation with different views. Some said that the President is absolutely right. These then started giving their own accounts of interacting with some Banyankore.
Some Banyankore too on social media agreed with the President that indeed the late Queen’s language dodges them. However, some dismissed the President’s claims and said that they are so good at the language. At times even more than their own local dialects.
