Eye Care Centre on 8^th November celebrated 22 years anniversary. The company also received prestigious Consumers Choice best Provider of Eye Care Service in the country. Felix Oketcho interviewed Eye Care Centre Managing Director Hassan Albhai on key milestone achievements. Below are the excerpts

Kindly give us the genesis of Eye Care Centre

Eye Care Centre started on Nov 8th 1996 by Hassan and Shahida Alibhai with its first branch at Johnstone Street as proprietors and Managing Directors of the company. since inception, Eye Care Centre has provided customers with highest standard in precision eye care solutions and products delivered through latest technology, efficiency and experienced dedicated staff service. Eye Care Centre has strived to provide its customer with products of the highest quality coupled with the latest fashionable styles and trends in eye-wear. As we have grown, realized the importance of having own lens manufacturing laboratory to cater fast and quick services. We started our own laboratory in 2006 with latest surfacing machines. Over the years we have upgraded our laboratory with latest machines. Over the past 21 years, the company has developed a stellar reputation for the relentless service it provides across all of its 6 showrooms across Kampala and Entebbe. My Son Jamil Alibhai joined the business in 2006 and is now slowly taking over the day today running of the business.

What were the mission and vision of Eye care centre?

we believe in providing most up-to-date, technologically advanced, complete eye care services. We will always strive to offer our clients eye care options that will enhance not only their vision but their sense of style and fashion as well. Above all, we believe that every person who steps into our showrooms should be treated as a valuable guest, and should always leave our premises feeling cared for and appreciated. Customer focus is our utmost priority and this dedication is driven through the process of guiding, developing, motivating and empowering our service teams.

Eye care centre focuses on offering visual impairment control ability and maintaining the high standards of optometry facilities in Uganda. This is being facilitated by providing free eye checks to all visiting clients across all our branches.

Eye care centre vast experience and extensive research has enabled us to develop the state-of-the-art eye testing facilities for free at all our show rooms. Customers can then select from a wide range of products which include the renowned international and regional string brands.

what has kept Eye Care Centre in business for all these years

Quality service to our the customers at Eye Care Centre is considered a core area. We understand the value, importance and indispensability of quality, dedicated service and the role it plays in enhancing a customer’s experience.

Across all Eye Care Centre showrooms, customers have access to not just large product ranges but also have access to some of the most knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic and well-trained members of the optical industry. The staff at Eye Care Centre is dedicated towards guiding and assisting customers through the process of
determining which product would effectively suit and satisfy their needs and life styles.
To enhance our eye care services further we have also appointed one experienced Ophthalmologist at our main branch at Johnstone Street.

Furthermore, to have continued relation with our clients we encourage our clients to visit our branches for after sales services like frame alignments and adjustments or cleaning of eye-wear and providing informative eye care brochures.

Eye Care Centre has been catching up with same pace as the optical industry which has been experiencing lot of sea changes in styles, trends and operational processes. Eye Care Centre dedicated approach towards its customer service has remained constant to ensure customers obtain the best value in their products and eye-care experience. The customer can book for his /he free eye test on our online website we also have in house ophthalmologist available.

All our Eye Care Centers are equipped with Tonometry instruments to measure the eye intra ocular pressure.

Any plans for the future

We plan to open our seventh branch next year to service our loyal and ever-growing customers better. We currently operate branches On John stone street, Acacia Mall in Kisementi, Bugolobi Village Mall, Victoria Mall in Entebbe and another at Garden City and at Lugogo Mall.

We have diversified into another business of providing high quality stamps and seals to Ugandan customers.

In expansion of our business line, we have introduced Ultra-Mark Uganda Limited our sister company with its offices located at Nkrumah Road.

Ultra Mark is registered company that deals in selling high quality Trodat stamps and seals. It’s a European brand from Austria.

At UltraMark, we have also machine which cuts out high quality stamps and seals and our charges are competitive to other brands. If we are dealing with a company, we need confirmation letter allowing us to make the stamps or seals. We can do stamps in 10 colours which is unique to this market. We can also do patriates or any artwork in 3D.

How different are the trodat stamps and seals on the Ugandan market?

Trodat offers the first stamp to create multicolor impression, personalized and unique. The trodat colour stamps ink cartridge and text plate may be reproduced at any time. The security feature is also key so if it is banks or companies that need quality stamps and seals we are the place to come to.
