Prof. Ezra Suruma Asks Fresh Graduates To Embrace Parish Model

The Chancellor of Makerere University Prof Ezra Suruma yesterday asked fresh graduates to embrace the parish model project.

He told them to use this opportunity to improve on agriculture production across the country.

The government is set to roll out the model in the next financial year where over 10,400 parishes will benefit from shs200 billion. This money will be gazetted by the government to eradicate poverty among households. Under the arrangement, each parish will receive Shs19 million.

During the 71st graduation ceremony at Makerere university yesterday, the professor addressed the ones that gathered to witness it. He said the parish model is aimed at increasing agricultural productivity throughout the country.

‘’I believe this model offers us all opportunities to simplify and understand the process of economic development by making it tangible at the parish model. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is the proving ground for development and growth theories,’’ Prof Ezra Suruma said.

He further challenged the graduates to take advantage of the program instead of waiting for donors and the government to do it.

The university is expected to graduate 12,500 students from various programs.

As of today, students from the College of Computing and Information Sciences, Business and Management Sciences, Veterinary Medicine among other few are graduating today.
