‘’Our legal regime requires presidential approval to get an official send-off for a non-sitting member of parliament, I will follow up with the head of state and put the request of the family before him,’’ Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among said.
On October 29, Among asked the family to follow the SOPs meant to combat the deadly covid-19 spread as they prepare to send Lubega off.
She also said as a female speaker, she will do everything in her power to ensure that the late gets a decent send-off.
However, she said as Parliament, they will make sure that their mentor and source of inspiration is honored.
The deputy speaker made these remarks as she visited Lubega’s family to deliver a message of solidarity from the Parliament.
She reassured them that the Parliament will stand by them in the final journey of Hon. Florence. Among also thanked them for taking care of Alice Lubega in her old age.
