Frank Tumwebaze- Opposition Parties’ Intolerance Shows Why They Can’t Rule Uganda

The new Minister for agriculture Frank Tumwebaze has come out to talk about opposition’s intolerance, a thing that has been decried by many.

People have gone to allege how the opposition political parties and their supporters are intolerant and abusive to those who differ with them in ideology.

Tumwebaze who was appearing on the Morning breeze on NBS TV said that government intends to work with everyone and not just NRM members.

He said however when the president reaches out to some members of these parties, they are instead thrown out and branded traitors.

“When the President invites members of the opposition, they are condemned by their parties. What do you want him to do? Government is not just for NRM. If the opposition can’t exhibit tolerance, how are they going to unite Uganda?” Tumwebaze questioned.

Tumwebaze also echoed President Museveni’s comments about Uganda becoming a middle-income country.

He said that had it not been for the covid-19 pandemic, Uganda would have been there by now because of its vibrant private sector.

“The private sector is vibrant, had it not been Coronavirus, we would be hitting middle-income status. Let’s not burn our country.” Tumwebaze added.

Tumwebaze also called upon Ugandans to unite against the covid-19 pandemic regardless of political affiliations. He said this affected the country equally.

“Can we agree on the bigger picture that affects us all? Can we all support the vaccination drive. For example, the tourism sector has been greatly hit. Let’s focus on such issues irrespective of political affiliations.” Tumwebaze noted.

He also called upon those seeking transition saying it’s a gradual process and not rather forced.
