Gabriel Buule, a respected journalist from the Nation Media Group, recently spoke out about his views on marriage and traditional practices, shedding light on the controversial topic of women kneeling before men.
In a candid interview on Emeka’s YouTube show, accompanied by his wife Joan Mulungi, Buule, a proud traditional Catholic Muganda man, shared his decision to break away from certain cultural norms, particularly the expectation of wives kneeling before their husbands.
Emphasizing his belief in mutual respect and equality in marriage, Buule voiced his opposition to practices that he perceives as symbolizing subjugation and inequality.
He expressed, “I didn’t marry a slave. The first sign of slavery is making people kneel when you’re forcing it, and another form of slavery is assuming titles before they are even given to you.”
Fostering collaboration through informal respect
Buule’s principles of respect and autonomy extend beyond his personal life and into his professional endeavors.
Reflecting on his workplace dynamics at the Nation Media Group, he highlighted a culture of informality and equality, exemplified by the team’s casual address of their boss, Rebecca Nantale, as “Becky,” eschewing formal titles.
By upholding a philosophy of mutual respect and empowerment, Gabriel Buule advocates for environments that prioritize authenticity and collaboration over hierarchical structures, fostering a sense of empowerment and comfort among colleagues.
