Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Clashes With Winnie Byanyima On Twitter

Followers of Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Oxfam International director Winnie Byanyima were treated to some free drama as the two clashed on Twitter.

This was in relation to the Commander of the Land Forces’ earlier tweet. Muhoozi in this tweet sided with the Tigrayan rebels who are fighting the Ethiopian government.

He added that he truly supported their cause and those who had wronged them deserve punishment.

This was not taken lightly by Byanyima who is a known global rights activist. The wife to former four-time presidential candidate Kiiza Besigye asked Muhoozi to delete that tweet.

She also added that Muhoozi was risking the lives of Ugandans in Ethiopia by indulging himself in the affairs of an independent country.

“Please delete this tweet. It is risking the lives of Ugandans working and living in Ethiopia,” Ms Byanyima tweeted.

However, Muhoozi did not take this counsel and instead resorted to a rather personal address. Muhoozi said that he had last seen Byanyima at State House decades ago and it was good to hear from her again.

He however reminded her that it’s the role of the Ethiopian government to protect the rights of the people it leads.

“Madame Winnie. Good to hear from you. It’s been a long time. I last saw you in SH in 1987. It is the responsibility of the Ethiopian gov’t to protect all citizens & visitors in Addis & the rest of the country. If the TDF is doing it in areas they control, why shouldn’t the gov’t?” Muhoozi replied to Winnie Byanyima.

Muhoozi has severally been engaging in the Ethiopian crisis through his Twitter page. He has also not shied away from expressing his support for the Tigrayans who are deemed as rebels.

For a man of his status, some people deem this as dangerous to engage openly in issues of a sovereign state but he clearly doesn’t care.
