“I have seen Gen. @mkainerugaba telling a lot of lies and misleading information. He is not a great general. He is not a bushfighter. He’s not compared to Mugisha Muntu, Benon Biraaro, the late Gen. Elly Tumwine, and others.”
The NUP MP added that they have been pleading with government to open up the political space. This will give chance to others to speak. He added that as opposition, they are not opting for the backward methods of fighting for power. The only way Ugandans and their leaders who believe in change shall be democratic and peaceful means.
Hon Ssewungu added that there is currently no difference between Museveni and pre 1986 leaders. This is because he’s openly practicing the exact things he and his comrades fought against. According to the MP, those who saw Museveni fighting to get into power say there was no change. This is because the status quo remained the same.
He cited the Serere by-election where money was being dished out to the voters like it had no meaning.
Ssewungu added that this is no solution to electoral malpractice and there needs to be political maturity in the country. From Ssewungu’s recollection, not even Obote reached such levels of electoral malpractice.
Furthermore, the MP said that his party NUP should be applauded. This is because, for the first time since he joined politics, there were people joining the opposition from the NRM.
“You should appreciate @NUP_Ug. For the first time in the previous election, we got members of NRM coming to our side. This was a huge achievement since I joined the opposition.”
He also gave his opinion over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal. Ssewungu Gonzaga said that even the Prime Minister herself is a culprit. He wondered how she could give out iron sheets to individuals yet she knew that they had a specific purpose.
