While wishing Gen Salim Saleh a happy birthday, Muhoozi called his uncle the greatest General in NRA history. According to Muhoozi, Saleh is not only the greatest in NRA history but also the UPDF.
“Happy birthday Afande Salim Saleh. Still the greatest General in the history of NRA/UPDF. May you have many more sir,” tweeted Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The former Land Forces commander has always shown great admiration for the OWC coordinator. One wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Gen Muhoozi idolizes his uncle more than his father.
Gen Salim Saleh was born on the 14th of January 1960 making him 63 years today. He is widely remembered for leading the NRA charge in 1986 in Kampala against Tito Okello Lutwa’s government.
This was the climax of the NRA guerilla war that finally cemented Museveni as the president.
Gen Saleh became the commanding officer of the NRA which was turned into a national army. He later became the Army Commander succeeding the late Gen Elly Tumwine in 1987.
Museveni however later sacked him in 1989 following accusations of corruption. He’s since then served in a number of positions and is undoubtedly the second most influential man in Uganda after his brother, Museveni.
