President Museveni yesterday told his new ministers while presiding over their swearing-in ceremony that this kisanja was not for talking but rather working. He tasked them to get people out of subsistence farming to a money economy.
The ministers swearing-in included Hon Wilson Muruli Mukasa who swore in as the new Minister of Public Service. Hon Sam Mangusho Cheptoris swore in as the new Minister of Water and Environment.
Hon Kyakulaga Fred Bwino also swore in for the State Minister for Agriculture.
“I congratulate the Ministers: Hon. Muruli Mukasa (Public Service), Hon. Sam Cheptoris (Water and Environment,) and Hon. Kyakulaga Fred Bwino (State for Agriculture) upon taking the oath of office. I tasked them to deliver results through service to our people.” The President tweeted.
Mr Museveni went ahead to tell them that this was not a period of talking but rather effecting the NRM campaign manifesto.
“The message to all ministers and all our leaders who have taken oath is: This kisanja is not for talking, we must focus on the issue of getting most of the population out of subsistence farming to a money economy in order to achieve the social-economic transformation.” President Museveni further added.
For a long time now, the President has been calling upon people to desist from subsistence farming to a more monetised type of farming.
He’s countlessly given examples of how he wants the country to emulate the four sector model. This includes ICT, Agriculture, Services and industry.
