Girl Commits Suicide After Punishment For Spending Night Out

A Tanzanian girl identified as Chepkurui Sharon aged 13 years took her life on Saturday after being punished by her parents for spending a night out without their permission.

Sharon, a primary 7 pupil at Matumaini Primary School in Tanzania hanged herself in their family house.

The victim’s father Mr Mitel Simon narrated that her daughter spent the whole Friday at school and never returned home that evening, which made them to get so worried.

I was just about to leave home to go search for her, but fortunately my wife who begun the search earlier on returned with her. Both of us were very angry. My wife decided to punish her for failing to return home without our consent, ‘said Simon.

The girl’s parents left their house and went to the garden till late evening only to find her dead body lying in the sitting room.

Upon our arrival from the garden on Saturday evening, I begun calling the girl several times, but there was no response. When I entered the house, only to find her dead body tied with the rope swinging at the roof of the house,’Mr Simon said.
