Manchester United ‘s controversial owners the Glazer family have announced their intention to ’explore alternatives’. The announcement came just hours after the club announced that Christiano Ronaldo would be parting ways with the club.
Last evening, reports came in that the Glazer family were behind the scenes working on a statement to announce their decision. The decision is to seek for a new investor, which would eventually end in the full sale of the club.
The development comes during hard times for the American owners facing immense pressure mounting from recent seasons. Apparently, since Jose Mourinho took charge in 2017, the club has not been able to win any trophies.
Ronaldo heavily criticized the Glazers in a last week interview accusing them of caring less about the club. He slammed the facilities and lack of any progression since he left the club in 2009 initially.
News from the club about the Glazers’ statement came in late on Tuesday.
“Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors (the ‘Board’) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club,” a statement read, according to the club’s website.
The statement revealed that the process is majorly aimed at the future of the club to capitalize on opportunities.
“As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.
This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale,” the statement further added.
