The charismatic Nakawa East MP while appearing on the NBS TV program, Eagle, said that Uganda’s government has deliberately kept people poor.
Balimwezo said that the government knows its easy to rule poor people. And rather than empower them to become rich, they have done the opposite.
The MP further added that he wonders why government only accords tax holidays and incentives to the rich. This is because its the informal sector that pays most of the taxes. Government should therefore accord them the same incentives once in a while.
“The government has made us poor. It’s easy to rule poor people. They know when people are rich, they become a problem. The informal sector pays the most taxes in this country, and tax exemptions are only given to investors,” Hon Balimwezo said.
Ronald Balimwezo further said that most Ugandans are struggling due to lack of employment. According to the statistics read by him, there are only 40,000 and 2 million jobs in the public and private sectors respectively.
Therefore over 40+ millions of Ugandans are jobless and yet the government is not doing enough.
However, NRM’s chief communications officer Rogers Mulindwa who was on the same show said that Uganda is lucky. This is because the country still has a visionary leader in President Museveni who plans ahead.
“We are still lucky that we still have a President who has vision. He always plans ahead.”
Mulindwa urged people to trust the government and its programs that come along. He added that every program that comes up has already been seen that it has a need to address.
