Government Declares 3 Days Of Mourning Over The Kiryandongo Accident

The kiryandongo accident was an accident that involved a Gaagaa Bus, tractor  and lorry taking away the lives of over 23 people and leaving most of the passenger injured.

This accident happened on Friday Night in Kiryandongo District. It was reported that the Gaagaa Bus had some government officials that also died in the accident.

According to police, the Gaagaa Bus was the major cause of the accident for it tried to overtake a vechicle which lead him to rammer into the Tractor hence also knocking down a Lorry.

Drivers who were involved in Kiryandongo accident died on the spot.

According to the minister on his twitter account, president Museveni also ordered the UPDF to provide helicopter for those who are seriously injured so that they can be taken for treatment.

As a way to honor the lives of the deceased that died in the Kiryandongo accident, the Government has declared three days of mourning.

The Prime Minister Rugunda confirmed the 3 mourning days declared by H.E Museveni.

Rugunda said: “The Government of Uganda is declaring 3 days of National Mourning over the Kiryandongo accident. The days commenced on 27th May and will end on the 29th on Tuesday 2018.”

During the mourning days, the flags will be flagged at half-mast. The relatives of the deceased will be awarded Shs5M and Shs 3M will be given to those that sustained serious injuries by the government.

Read what some leaders said; Ms Naigambi Lydia from Nawandala Trading Centre says, “They solicited money from us through opening bank accounts and depositing Shs80,000. They also asked for land titles and land agreements from us yet we don’t have such things. I was informed that I needed to have a business with a capital of Shs4m yet my capital was very small.” The chairperson Kisoboka Saving Group in Nawandala Ms. Nakagolo Faith said they were not able to join the program. This is given the many conditions attached. She also asked their woman MP to raise their concerns to the relevant offices. The MP condemned the mode of implementation of the program. She cited that it has turned to benefit the well-off class of women other than the intended group. She further asked the government to intervene saying the current strings attached to the programme are very tight to accommodate a common woman. GROW project is a Government of Uganda initiative that arose out of the need to respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs. This is especially those who want to grow their businesses, sustain their self-employment and create more jobs.
