Many Ugandans a few days ago were left quite shocked after Gravity Omutujju ’s Okwepicha song appeared in a British TV series titled, Queenie. Speaking about it, the dancehall singer was very excited and revealed how it got there.
First and foremost, the singer said that he was very excited as he didn’t expect it. Therefore, all Ugandans should be happy for him, as well as the critics alike. This is due to the fact that it’s not easy to have a song go worldwide.
He added that people in foreign countries barely care about the lyrics but rather the melody and art of the song. Additionally, he pointed to some foreign songs that became viral in Uganda but people barely knew what they meant.
The Walumbe Zaya singer also said that he buys some of these songs. At other times he writes them himself but for now, he’s going to enjoy the global fame that he has momentarily obtained.
Read his statement below;
“To be honest, it was quite a surprise for me as well but an honor at the same time. I think every Uganda including the trolls should be happy for me. This is because it’s not easy to have a song featured in a global film. Those whites barely care about the words but rather the melody and feel of the song. Even here we have enjoyed foreign songs such as Mr. Flavor’s Ashawo, Saida Karoli’s songs yet we didn’t know the meaning.”
It should be noted that the singer has faced a lot of criticism for the type of songs and lyrics he does. Many find them not fit for underage audiences yet they are the ones who enjoy them the most.
A while ago, Gravity said that he doesn’t care about the critics as long as his music feeds him and his family.
