High School Senior Fatally Shot In Target Practice In The US

A 17-year-old girl died after sustaining gunshot wounds during target practice in a small town in Georgia. The girl, Candace Chrzan, was a senior at Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia.

While hanging out with friends on Tuesday evening, Candace was shot in the backyard of one of their homes.

‘’It was just a couple of friends out in the backyard, from what we were told, possibly doing target practice with a pistol. The kids obviously haven’t been taught maybe the gun safety that they should have been. And ultimately it resulted in Candace’s death,’’ Ashley Husley, a Carroll County Sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

Investigations into the death are still ongoing and officials have said it is still unclear whether charges will be pressed. Law enforcement officials have not announced yet who the gun belongs to. In other efforts, grief counselors were made available for students at Mount Zion High School on Thursday.

Officials told students to keep the family of the deceased in their thoughts and prayers as they process the death of their daughter. As they return to class without her, the students of Mount Zion were also asked to remember their classmate.
