Mukono Municipality MP, Hon Betty Nambooze has come out to express her fury over the numerous vulgar songs that are currently flooding the music industry in the country.
It should be noted that songs with explicit lyrics have been on the rise and continue to get a positive reaction from the public.
Songs such as Enkudi, Okwepicha have all received acclaimed success and other musicians are taking the same route.
Different public figures including musicians have come out to call upon this trend to stop but in vain. Some even solicited the help of UCC to stop these songs from hitting the airwaves.
Now Betty Nambboze has added her voice to many who have already aired. She said that being an artist doesn’t guarantee one to spew vulgarities in their songs.
She wondered if these artists could play these songs in the presence of their parents. And if they can’t do this, then this nonsense must stop.
The MP pointed out the viral song of Hozaambe by one D-Star. This song has gone viral and is currently the biggest song in the country crossing even as far as Kenya. However, its lyrics aren’t the cleanest.
“If you’re an artist, please stop singing nonsense and vulgarities. Ask yourself if you can play the same song in the presence of your parents. And if you can’t, then please stop that nonsense. We are tired of it,” she said.
Most of these songs have a clear pattern. And this is TikTok. The platform has given different wannabe musicians a huge platform to go viral regardless of what they sing.
