He said that they are a bunch of nonsensical fellas who gather each other and act silly jokes. Besides, they lack the principles of art and have contributed to the downfall of real comedy.
He was then informed that Uganda has some good stand-up comedians such as Alex Muhangi and Patrick Salvado. For Muhangi, he said that he’s just a businessman. When it came to Salvado, Ssegawa said that the man from Ombokolo is just an influencer.
After learning of these comments, the comedian took to his social media pages to hit back. According to the Africa Laughs comedy show boss, he doesn’t care about the background noise.
All he does care about is that he’s getting paid. Therefore the critics and trolls can keep crying and shouting but he doesn’t care at all.
Additionally, Salvado said that he’s whatever these critics construct him to be.
‘Hehehehe I will not fall for that trap … I am whatever they say I am as long as I get paid to do what I know I am … Everyone else’s opinion about me is just background noise.”
It should be noted that Ssegawa has over time criticized his fellow entertainers. His criticism coincidentally usually lands on musicians that aren’t leaning towards singer and politician, Bobi Wine.
Singer Ykee Benda also addressed this issue and said that envy is a real disease. He was apparently referring to John Ssegawa.
