Ssegirinya has been under arrest since September 2021 with his counterpart Allan Ssewanyana. The two are facing charges of murder, terrorism, aiding, and abetting terrorism.
After so many attempts to get bail, it looks like the two MPs finally decided to give up. It is during their time, that president Yoweri Museveni said Court should stop giving bail to people facing murder charges despite overwhelming evidence against the accused.
Though this didn’t go far, it surely had an effect on their getting bail. The two are just about to make six months in prison without a clear explanation of what is going to happen to them.
No wonder, most people think it’s more political than criminal why they are in jail.
Unfortunately, the pressure from the public had kind of gone low over the months. Some people even criticized National Unity Platform for abandoning their people in prison because of how silent they have been about this matter.
The people who have been benefiting from Ssegirinya Muhammad’s projects of helping people have cried out saying, he would have gone far with them by this time.
“Can’t imagine how many people would have benefited from his charities by now if he wasn’t arrested. Freedom cost too much,” a one Yejosh said.
The question is, how long are they going to keep these two behind bars? Is Parliament the right place to go to and demand the release of these Members of Parliament?
