I Won’t Give Anything To My Kids While I’m Alive – African American Man Says

The Internist/cardiologist in Los Angeles Afshine Emrani narrated that his cab driver in Vegas was a 71 year old African American man whose every word was pure wisdom. He so enjoyed talking to him. Some of the highlights of what he told him.

1) Most people spend more time planning a dinner than they do their entire life.

2) I worked hard when in California and waited for the 2008 real estate crash and bought a house for myself and my wife in Vegas. I paid it off, so even if I lose everything, my wife and I will always have the house.

3) I told my kids they will get the house after their mother and I are gone, but they need to work and make a life for themselves. I won’t give them anything while I’m alive. I’m spending all my money enjoying my retirement.

4) I also told my kids if I get sick or die, I have long term insurance, and all burial is paid for. I do not want to burden them with any of my problems.

5) I’m not like other older folks who sit and complain all day. I get up in the morning early and work out, then I drive the cab and listen to my favorite music which is Jazz. This keeps me sharp and after a couple of months, I put away some money.

6) My wife and I love Jazz so we go on Jazz cruises. For our 40th anniversary we’re going on a river cruise around France.

7) Whenever she and I get tired of Vegas, we just drive to the airport and see which international flight has room. No plans. Whatever is available, we’ll take it at half price and we go see the world. We’ve been everywhere.

I have no mortgage and my expenses outside travel is very minimal, so we spend most of our extra money on experiences.

What matters at the end of life is that you experience everything God placed on this earth. I want to go everywhere and see everything until I can’t. How memorable. How wise.

The African American man’s experience is like exactly what the opposite of most Persian parents do. Entire lives dedicated to their children. Forget about themselves. No traveling or experiences just save money for the future… And give it to the kids and sit at home and worry about what happens to the kids and grandkids 🤦
