This is the reason why there is so much pulling of the ropes between National Resistance Movement and the opposition.
“I wouldn’t mind NRM winning all elections, even the General Election, as long as the election is credible and people are allowed to mobilize freely.”
“We are never bothered about losing an election as long as it’s credible. The losses in whichever form they come are lessons that there is a lot that we need to do to align the electoral process,” he added.
Ssegona says he has reached the point where he knows for sure that elections will never do anything to change this country.
Up until now, Ssegona says some people who were arrested during the 2021 elections are still in jail. He believes this says a lot about Uganda’s electoral process.
“We had started a grassroots mobilization campaign, but our people were arrested. Do you know that some of our people that were arrested during the 2021 General Election are still in prison? Some we are looking for and can’t see. We have never deceived ourselves into thinking that elections are the ultimate solution to the problems in this country.”
The opposition has been losing all by-elections starting with the Omoro election. However, their reason has been that NRM glitches the whole process from the grassroots. Due to this, they think they need more than an election for a change in this country.
