President Museveni on Tuesday appointed Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police. He additionally appointed Maj Tom Magambo as the new Criminal Investigations Director.
“The IGP welcomes and congratulates the DIGP and Director CID, to the call of delivering leadership and stewardship of the UPF as we protect and serve our motherland,” Ochola said in a statement.
Members of the public have always complained about Museveni appointing army officers to police. According to them, he is militarizing the police which is not a good thing.
However, the IGP, Ochola differs from all this. He says army officers bring a diversity to police that is good.
According to him, UPDF officers bring a great wealth of knowledge to law enforcement body that will help build capacity.
“Some of the areas where police has drawn best practices from the UPDF include intelligence gathering, supervision, and discipline, handling highly risky and confrontational situations,” Ochola said.
Last year when people expressed their discontent about the appointment of army officers in Police.
However, David Muhoozi answered saying army officers can work anywhere. Therefore, this has no problem at all as the public assumes.
In other news by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija has promoted 65 senior prisons officers. These have been promote to various ranks.
He has also re-designated six directors to the rank of Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons. According to the promotions, they have promoted six officers to the rank of Commissioner of Prisons.
