The Deputy Speaker vowed that these will face it rough with her once indicted. She gave this order to the Minister in charge of security, Hon Jim Muhwezi.
Hon Anita Among added that she also wants the list of the perpetrators and what punishment the respective agencies have handed down to them.
“I direct the minister in charge of Security to produce the list of all Citizens who have been shot and mishandled by the security agencies. I also want the list of perpetrators and what action the Security agencies have taken against them,” Hon Anita Among said.
The last few years have seen countless people dying, others sustaining permanent injuries, all courtesy of security agencies. These escalated in the lockdown while different security agencies were enforcing the COVID-19 guidelines.
More murders from these organizations occurred in the pre and post-election period. They still continue to go ahead even up to now.
Security agencies have whisked away a lot of political supporters, especially from the Opposition party NUP to unknown destinations. Some of these return maimed, with brutal scars while others don’t return and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Despite the condemnation from different actors both foreign and in the country, the acts have gone ahead to happen. We can’t tell whether the Deputy Speaker’s move will yield anything.
This is because it’s not the first time the government is declaring punishment for these criminals.
